Trout Fishing — Avalanche, Emerald & Parsons Valley
The Nilgiris' high lakes were stocked with trout in colonial times, and permit-based angling for brown and rainbow trout still draws fly-fishers to the remote shola reservoirs of Avalanche, Emerald and Parsons Valley.
History
Trout were introduced to Nilgiri streams and lakes from the late 19th century, and a hatchery at Avalanche has long supported the fishery. These high reservoirs remain among the few places in South India where you can fish for trout amid wild shola-grassland country.
