Droog Fort

Off the beaten path
Droog Fort

A ruined hill-fort once held by Tipu Sultan, reached by a forest trek through tea and shola to a 6,000-foot lookout.

The trek of roughly 3 km each way climbs from the Droog village trailhead through working tea to the summit ruins.

Local tradition links the fort to Tipu Sultan's hill defences; only fragments of wall and a watch-point remain.

Carry water and start early — there is no shade or shop on the ridge, and afternoon mist closes the view.

The Tipu Sultan association is local oral tradition rather than firmly documented history; the fort's exact origins are unclear.
