Off the beaten path
Kalhatti Falls

A 100-foot fall on the old Sigur ghat below Ooty, in dry-deciduous forest where elephants and gaur range up from Mudumalai.

The falls lie on the descent toward Masinagudi, where the climate shifts quickly from montane to dry forest.

The surrounding Sigur plateau is prime habitat for elephants — do not walk the roadside at dusk.

A small shrine sits beside the fall, and the area is associated with the saint Agasthya in local tradition.
