Kodanad Viewpoint

Where the hills meet the plains — a sweeping view over the Moyar valley.

Highlights

  • The signature viewpoint of the Kotagiri side, where the plateau drops to the Moyar gorge
  • A panorama over the Moyar valley toward the Mysore plateau and, on clear days, Mudumalai's forests
  • Tea estates running right to the cliff edge — classic Nilgiri foreground
  • A watchtower and a short approach walk through working tea

Kodanad marks the eastern rim of the Nilgiris, where the cool tea country ends abruptly above the hot, dry Moyar valley far below — the same valley that forms the elephant corridor into Mudumalai.

A small watchtower sits at the edge; from it the land falls away in ridge after ridge toward the plains, best seen before the morning haze builds.

It is about 16 km from Kotagiri through Kil Kotagiri tea country, an easy and beautiful drive in its own right.
